Cornerstones to best health practices

Get Educated - I mean REALLY educated

It’s a big huge information world out there – and it’s important to take the time to sift through data, information, misinformation, web sites, books, and social media. Good information will typically keep repeating itself through different journalistic mediums, but that said, we all know there is a lot of misinformation out there. If you buy a washer, a car or a house, you do a lot of research, it’s the same here.

Don't believe everything you hear, and learn to do what feels right for you

I am constantly hearing people recommend different health practices at parties, on the street or in the grocery store. If you are taking health advice, it’s usually best to do your own research and figure out what’s right for you. This is the key, and this is what’s tricky, because most people have never been taught the skill of feeling what’s right for them in school, in life or anywhere. In fact, we are taught the opposite. We are taught to OVER RIDE our emotions and bodily sensations from an early age. Some cultures have a deep reverence for deep knowing, getting in touch with your body, and deciding what feels right for them, based on facts and information.

Open Your Mind - And Keep Opening it Wider

Good health solutions come in all shapes and sizes. There are so many ways to skin a cat much of the time when it comes to good health, and there is not just one right solution or one right approach.  We must all always be open to new ideas, new healing methods, and working with new practitioners. What I have seen in my experience over the years is that no one can make good decisions on health unless they first have an open mind, and cultivating an open is one of the key factors in good health.

Create your own personal Dream Team of practitioners and doctors

Don’t wait until you have an injury or are sick, start researching and establishing which practitioners and doctors are good and who you trust. Keep it a varied list. Depending on your injury or illness, you want to be prepared so you can hit the ground running and start healing right away. Make sure to go on referrals and reviews, this can jumpstart you on your way to creating your own personal dream team of practitioners and doctors. This might include, but not be limited to, a General Physician, an Osteopath, a chiropractor, an acupuncturist, a physical therapist, and of course a fantastic Certified Pilates Instructor. It’s also great to have a list of doctors with different specializations that you can call on. Some doctors or practitioners will stop taking new patients over time, so get on their list even if you are well or injury free.

Most of all, stay healthy and keep learning
